Business owners, entrepreneurs, anyone self employed.

Take note and read up.

Let me ask you a question.
If your business was losing money every month, what would you do?
Would you sit back and let it happen month after month after month?
Would you slowly let your business deteriorate to a point where it is no longer a viable option and you now have to look for a job or sign on?

Or…

Would you do something about it??

Let me ask you another question…
If you’re car broke today, how quickly would you get it fixed?
Would you let weeks go by before you MAKE TIME to get it to the garage and get it fixed?

Or…

Would you make sure you get it sorted, because you NEED that car to do the school run, or get to work?

When it comes to our businesses or our car, we do everything we can to stop and get things sorted, why?

Because we view that as extremely important and something that must happen, so we FIND THE TIME.

Now lets look at someone that is repeatedly putting on bad weight? They are effectively losing money, year on year.

Like in business, if you do this for to long enough you will be OUT OF THE GAME and you WILL have to shut down. FACT.

  • For every 5 inches we add to our waist circumference we increase our risk of disease by 15%

The truth is, if only we realise that by prioritising our health, by developing some good habits by not “losing money” and having structure and discipline in our lives, will we actually have much more FREEDOM. Freedom from no stress, freedom from no poor health, freedom from not feeling like sh*t each and every day!

A healthy individual will have better concentration, better focus, be more productive, be more engaging and will have a much better capacity to deal with and manage stress. They will be a happier person to be around. This will mean they will produce better work and actually enjoy the process of work and life.

If you run your own business, “stop losing money” and realise that it doesn’t have to be that way.

There are simple steps you can take today to develop some healthier habits, to feel instantly better and get back to feeling GREAT, looking GREAT and being the person you should be.

“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones”

Sometimes our ultimate goal can seem impossible and a long way from where we are now.

At the start of any journey, the most important thing you can do is START!

One thing is for sure, nothing is gonna happen unless you focus on your goal, and go for it.

If you’re not nervous before your training session, you’re not training hard enough.

With any training session worth its salt there should be an element that physically or mentally tests your resolve.

To create change in the body, we need to subject our body to a stimulus that progressively demands the body to adapt (progressive overload). This, if often pushing the body out of its comfort zone, can feel very demanding.

Mentally we need to have the toughness to focus on the details, hit the desired number of reps, use the correct rest times and adhere to the correct tempo prescribed.

All of these details are integral to continued progress.

Assess your workouts- do they challenge you physically and mentally? If they are, then be patient and the progress will come, If not, look for workouts that will test you and take you out of your comfort zone and closer to your ultimate goals.

Sleep – make sure you get enough!

Remember that time you slept and woke up feeling completely rejuvenated?…Yeah me too…But how long ago was that?…If you’re struggling to remember…That isn’t healthy!

‘Sleep quality refers to the restfulness of a night’s sleep and how well it rejuvenates the body, and does not necessarily reflect sleep length’ (Examine.com)

So how important is sleep? Well a ‘proper night’s sleep’ pattern in line with your circadian rhythm appears to regulate a large number of body systems. Proceeding to disrupt sleep may affect these particular systems:

➢ Provoke obesity
➢ Hinder regulation of testosterone
➢ Increase cortisol,
➢ Limit fat loss,
➢ Restrict weight loss.

All systems we want to be regulating optimally.

So how on earth do we manage to get a good night’s sleep!? It starts by making sure you’re sleeping in a completely dark room. Invest in some black out curtains/blinds and cover or dispose of any blinking lights, standby lights, TVs, laptops etc.

Next, either turn off your phone or place somewhere walking distance away from your bed. Emerging evidence suggests that our phones produce radiation which may affect our sleep cycles (Robertson et al., 2013).

Robertson and his team of bed time nerds suggest exposing yourself to sunlight when first waking improves our cortisol awakening response, meaning the higher the cortisol levels at the beginning of the day may result in a better night’s sleep… You can thank Robertson et al later!

How many times have you been told to relax before going to bed!…take the hint and try it!…I like to read nonsense before hitting the hay… You might find 50 shades of Grey relaxing…who knows!

If reading 50 shades of Grey isn’t working for you, then try another approach by writing down what’s making you anxious. By doing so you’re potentially putting your mind at ease!

Or finally try some deep breathing…separately to reading 50 shades of Grey…that’ll be weird…don’t be that guy!….Relaxation practice or meditation can calm mental chatter!

If all else fails…(this one’s for the older generation)…have yourself a ‘hot totty’!

Heath is the new wealth!

Over and out!

Lactose Intolerant!

➢ Wind?
➢ Diarrhea?
➢ Bloated stomach?
➢ Stomach cramps & pains?
➢ Stomach rumbling?
➢ Feeling sick?

Sound familiar? You MAY be experiencing symptoms of lactose intolerance!

Lactose intolerance is a common digestive problem where the body is unable to digest lactose, a type of sugar primarily found in dairy products like milk, cheese etc.

Some may be able to drink a small glass of milk without triggering any of the above symptoms, while others can’t even tolerate milk with their tea or coffee!

Now, let’s get something straight, if you’re experiencing the above symptoms that does not necessarily mean your lactose intolerant. You MAY be experiencing affects from a long-term disorder ‘Irritable Bowel Syndrome’ (IBS). I would advise seeking a professional opinion before self diagnosing!

So, what causes lactose intolerance? Here’s a little bit of science for you…Keep up!

The body digests LACTOSE using a enzyme called LACTASE. This breaks down LACTOSE into two sugars called glucose and galactose which make it easier to be absorbed into the bloodstream.

So, people with lactose intolerance don’t produce enough LACTASE, making the LACTOSE stay put in the digestive system where it’s fermented by bacteria. This then leads to the production of various gases which cause the above symptoms!

Depending on the underlying reason why the body isn’t producing enough LACTASE, lactose intolerance may be temporary or permanent. However, most cases that develop in adults are INHERITED but do tend to be lifelong. Cases with young children are often caused by an infection in the digestive system and may only last for a few weeks.

Now, for those who THINK your lactose intolerant go and seek a professional opinion and get tested.

Those WHO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED with lactose intolerance I’m sure you know there are lactase substitutes which may be helpful. I’m not a fan of popping pills so I would advise seeking lactose-free foods & drinks instead!

So, foods & drinks that don’t usually contain lactose include the following:

➢ Soya milks, yogurts and some cheeses
➢ Milks made from rice, oats, almonds, hazelnuts, coconut, quinoa & potato’s
➢ Foods which carry ‘dairy-free’ or ‘suitable for vegans’ signs,

Or even better, there are milks out there produced by cow’s (yeah cow’s) which contain additional lactase! This can mean you’re still getting the nutritional benefits of cow’s milk but less likely to experience the above symptoms…result!
